Scott Joplin (1868-1917), King of Ragtime Writers, is the most successful afro-american composer ever: despite not having much success during his life except with Maple Leaf Rag, his compositions were largely rediscovered since the 1970s and tracks like The Entertainer have been recorded and arranged by hundreds of artists, in all styles, being recognized as true American classics.
