For her fifth album, Annett Louisan opted not to work with her usual producer and lyricist, Frank Ramond. Instead, she struck up a musical partnership with Danny Dziuk (a regular musician and songwriter for Stoppok) and producer Peter Hoffmann, with additional material written by Annette Humpe (Ideal, Ich + Ich), Ulla Meinecke, satirist Wiglaf Droste, and, for the first time in her career, Louisan herself. The record features chanson-like, guitar-based pop songs about relationships, and like Louisan's previous two albums (Das Optimal Leben and Teilzeithippie), In Meiner Mitte reached number two in the German album charts.
