Philip Jones Griffiths is renowned as theforemost photographer of the war in Viet Nam.President of Magnum for a record five years,his 1971 publication Viet Nam Inc was a crucialinfluence in changing public opinion in the USat the time of the conflict.His new book however presents a periodmuch closer to home, with a departure towardsmany previously unseen images taken ofBritain in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.Griffiths s images depict social and politicalaffairs and landmark events over three decadesof change and upheaval in Great Britain.From the Beatles in Liverpool and coalminersin Wales, to CND marches on the streets ofLondon and funeral processions in NorthernIreland, the images are acute, human, andoften wry, moments describing an importanttransition in British society.Tock! presents a domestic revolution, froma photographer whose international famecovering a country on the other side of theworld is now put in the context of his equallyincisive work at home.An exhibition of over 50 images from the bookwas exhibited in 2007 at Trolley Gallery, Londonand afterwards at Savignano Festival, Italy.In 2008 the images will be exhibited inLiverpool as part of their City of Culture celebrations.Philip Jones Griffiths was recently honoredfor Achievement in Photojournalism, at the5th Annual Lucie Awards in New York, October2007.
