Keshav Dhar is well aware of the volatility of the internet. During an interview following his debut set (watch the full set here) at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, he touched upon the problems musicians cause themselves by releasing too much too early and then upsetting spam filters. While he’s been creating proof-points for himself by sparingly posting previews online, there’s a reason why it took him four years to put together Skyharbor’s debut, Blinding White Noise: Illusion & Chaos. Four years of not just perfecting his sound but getting (the right) people interested through careful, calculated promotion. When he began writing the record, few were familiar with the music he made under the Hydrodjent moniker. By the time it came out, it was for all intents and purposes the most anticipated Indian metal release of the year. 
 
Given that Dhar followed a trajectory similar to that of other bedroom-bred guitarists like Misha Mansoor (Periphery) and Acle Kahney (TesseracT), Skyharbor is susceptible to be categorized as a djent band. But while it would make sense in the context of disc two (aptly titled Chaos), the first disc (Illusion) showcases his ample prog sensibilities. While Chaos is canted, monsterous and reliant on groove, Illusion is bright, textural and rife with motion. It sees him adopt a controlled approach to songwriting and pace each musical movement with a bigger picture in mind. While Chaos is certainly structured, it seems all over the place and most concerned with delivering a steady pounding.
