REMNANT is a band of worship leaders that has served as a worship team in our hometown church for more than a decade. Having been led to Lakeport from different cities and in one case another state, we found ourselves fortunate enough to have been bound and knit together under a ministry dedicated to our personal growth and individual walks with God.
REMNANT’s lyrics are often pulled directly from scripture and invoke epic imagery, blended into a personal and relevant, but timeless flavor and fragrance. Jon and Anna have penned over 250 original musical works between them, and counting. By design and through years of the laying down of their lives, sometimes sacrificially, both have written amazingly poetic and penetrating songs, either directly to God or songs that highlight His desire for relationship and intimacy with a people - really any who would choose Him. Much like David’s Psalms that bring to remembrance God’s promises and exploits, REMNANT’s purposeful approach to songwriting invites the audience to become immediate participants and not just observers, causing their focus to be solely towards Him.
The first thing many people notice about REMNANT is that we are not flashy, but real and approachable, even down-to-earth. Next, even though we are a small band, we are a band with a big sound which some have referred to as “a Wall of Sound”. Still others are drawn to the original quality of our music, a ‘new note’ that one notably non-Christian woman we met called “curiously compelling”. We know this ‘curiously compelling wall of sound’ and ‘new note’ to be the presence of God as the Holy Spirit enters into our meetings and gatherings. Because of this, we’ve found that our live performances have, to date, far out-shined any recording we’ve ever produced simply because of His irreplaceable presence, for which we are glad.
Generally speaking, we have not been a ‘touring’ band, having been totally devoted to the ministry where we have been called. But all of that changed recently when the Lord first put in us a desire to go beyond our walls, and then proved His intention by miraculously making a way for us to play in our nation’s capitol, at the Washington Monument, for the September 11, 2010 Memorial and Unity Event in front of thousands of people. This in conjunction with several wildly successful secular/political engagements has confirmed to us His desire to take our music well beyond our comfort zones, and into new places with Him.
We as REMNANT have come to know the reality and joy of hearing God’s voice and following His leadership in our everyday lives. We have also been witnesses to His great and faithful love as we take up the mantle of worship and He, in turn, comes with a sweet, joyful, and power-packed anointing no matter where we find ourselves. For us, the presence of His Holy Spirit is everything as we are wholly dependent upon Him to affect and transform lives as only He can.
More than just a band, we have allowed God to mold us into true leaders of worship with one overriding goal:
To usher in the tangible, absolute, undeniable, and overwhelming presence of God over His adoring people - beyond the guitar licks and light shows – that can only result in the demonstration of God’s power to save, deliver, and heal. Then we become bystanders to His glory…
Revelation 21:3 “…behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. “
The three-strand cord of REMNANT:
Jonathan Wynacht – Vocals & Guitar
At the age of 17, Jonathan was called to the music ministry. Having never before picked up a guitar, he soon found himself leading worship and growing in skill and ability first as a musician and later as a Pastor. Even early on, Jon was writing songs of sublime simplicity yet full of depth and meaning beyond his years; songs like “Come On And Go With Me”, “Do Not Be Afraid”, “Just A Few Words”, and his masterful take on the Lord’s Prayer, “Father, Father, Father”. Today, Jon brings all of those gifts to bear and more with an uncommon spirit-filled awareness and uncompromising energy.
Anna Mix – Vocals & Guitar
Anna also began singing to and for God at a very young age. Her vocals are at once sweet, passionate, and powerful, and she brings to the table an ability to enter into worship upon her very first note. At the age of 18, she too picked up the guitar and began writing songs in earnest. Her heart is to glorify God, to make a way for His presence, and to allow Him to touch people right where they are, even for the healing of their bodies and emotions. Her stand of faith includes her expectation that the Lord can and will drop spontaneous songs of encouragement and exhortation into her heart for the meeting/gathering as a whole, or even for individuals. Two original standout songs in her repertoire include “Running Towards The Tomb” and “Shelter From The Storm”.
J.D. Mix – Drums & Percussion
Backing them up on percussion is Anna’s husband, John. After a timely accident involving a moving van and his saxophone, John took up drumming at the age of 15, the same year he gave his life to the Lord, and he has never looked back. Although he learned drums in the secular world of rock, John soon found he had no appetite for the darker side of rock and proclaims to this day that God ‘kept’ him from metal music and the anger associated with it. Giving it all to God, John seamlessly flows from ballad, to power-ballad, to rock-n-roll including a touch of Latin or other ethnic influences. Together all three create a formidable team of musicians and worship leaders who aspire to be more than the sum of their parts.
