Dumbsaint is a three-piece instrumental band from Sydney, Australia
With their origins dating back to 2007, the band has focused it's efforts in combining cinematic music with original, synced, narrative film projections. Brought together through their love of film and experimental artists such as ISIS, Hideaki Anno and David Lynch, the band seeks to present an 'installation' where sound and image interact; an intense and often challenging piece which invites the listener to engage with the filmed image in some unexpected ways - a live performance in which each song is a short film, and each screening a musical set piece.
The first single, 'Don't Forget To Bring Down The Sky' will be released February 14th 2012 through Birds Robe Records.
Drawing parallels to artists such as ISIS, Jakob, Toe, Russian Circles and Tool, DFTBDTS showcases Dumbsaint at the height of their musical and personal evolution, exploring their turbulent history through a cathartic wash of dynamics and emotion. The track not only reinforces the command the band have over their instruments, but the maturity of their communication as a songwriting unit; delivering a layered sound - without words - that is haunting and memorable.
The band blends heavy, progressive and ambient sounds, creating a dynamic that not only transcends genres, but audiences. Through this they have developed a strong local following and in turn played alongside numerous local and international acts including; Sleep Parade, Thousand Needles In Red, Sydonia, Breaking Orbit, sleepmakeswaves, Mushroom Giant, Tangled Thoughts Of Leaving, Laurence Pike and Headphones President (Jpn).
In 2009, the band independently financed, produced and distributed a DVD, Perennial 2009, that included live music, footage and short films. Growing interest around this release saw it quickly sell out.
Following in the footsteps of progressive rock stalwarts, COG, in 2010 Dumbsaint were invited to curate their own month-long residency at the now defunct Excelsior Hotel in Surry Hills. From here the band continued this momentum with numerous shows along the East Coast.
Despite being only a three-piece, their intricate musicianship and attention to detail creates a wall of light and sound greater than the sum of it's members. This element has the seen the band win numerous awards including Most Outstanding New Band in 2008, Most Outstanding Guitarist and Most Outstanding Headline Act in 2010 and Most Outstanding Drummer in 2011 at the annual Noisies Alternative Music Awards.
November 2011 saw the band enter Studios 301 with Producer Tim Carr (Ernest Ellis, Matt Corby, Totally Unicorn, Serious Beak), to bookend the last 4 years of what up until now, has only been accessible by a live audience.
