The band is based in Long Island and Queens. It started as a hard rock band named FCOL in 2005 with only three members during the time. The band went on hiatus afterward for years. Eventually the band tried starting up again, but lost a member (Noel Cahill) and had only Aaron and Andrew left. The next year, the band was renamed Bloodlust Aqueduct and started playing melodic death metal. Three more members joined, but then gave up its keyboardist. Bloodlust Aqueduct quickly finished an EP but did not play live. While changing its lineup, the band renamed itself Reluctant Mortem. Reluctant Mortem played its first show at the Blue Parrot in Massapequa, on September 25th 2011.
